whatever it takes

Name: Emily (or any bizarre nickname you could think of: Em, Em-Leh, Emmy, Eeems etc.)
Age: 17
Sex: F
Sign: In western astrology I'm a Gemini, in Chinese astrology I'm a Dragon.
Eyes: Greengrayblue. Depends who you ask, what I'm wearing, and what the light's like.
Hair: Roughly boob-length, curly/wavy and naturally dark brown. I dyed it red last summer so from my ears down it's a sort of coppery penny-like colour.
Height: 5'2"

Interests/Hobbies/Likes: Theatre, reading, writing, History class, asian food, musicals, singing (I'm an alto), winter clothes, travel, languages, sociology, social work, historical fiction, autobiographies (my favourite is John Lewis's "Walking With the Wind"), children's literature, my Volvo car, photography, independent or foreign films.
Dislikes: Homophobia, discrimination based on race/gender/sexuality/nationality/religion/ANYTHING, mayonaise, birds (slightly traumatic experience with a peacock when I was 9), Physics and science in general, much of pop culture, mornings, rude customers who don't leave tips, rabid fundamentalist Christians who try and push their beliefs on me (this goes for rabid *insert any religion here*, really), math class first thing in the morning, immature adults.
Strengths: I'm loyal, thourough, dedicated, open-minded, generous. I'm good at English and History. I genuinely want to help people (want to be a social worker). I'm easy to talk to because I'm friendly and know a little bit about a lot of things.
Weaknesses: Perfect to walk all over. I'm a procrastinator and it's always all my fault because I let things collect. I'm overly cautious sometimes and don't give a damn other times. I can also be a work-a-holic. I hold grudges.
Current Job [if any]: I'm a barista at a "fake Starbucks". A Barnes & Noble Cafe.
Dream Job: I'd love to be a social worker and somehow work with AIDS patients. Not the medical aspects, but support group or education things. Being from San Francisco...it's hard for me not to feel close to this issue. Any job that would allow me to travel and study History would be wonderful.

Favorites--
Subject: History, definitely. Languages are next (in my case, English, German, and some weak French.)
Color: Burgundy or chocolate brown
Animal: Penguins (I hate birds yet love penguins. That's just the kid of freak I am.) and foxes.
Sport: Dance. (Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern, and I'd love to learn to Tango.)
Drink: Water, white chocolate mochas (half off!), sprite, thai iced tea.
Food: Pad Thai, Sushi (especially sashimi, which is "pretty hard core" according to my friends), peanut butter and jam sandwiches, all kinds of fruit, Girl Scout Cookies.
Season: Autumn or Winter.
Song: I have way too many, this is such a horrible question to ask...I'm going through a(nother) RENT kick right now and I'm listening to "Goodbye Love" and "One Song Glory" pretty much nonstop. Also, "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service and REM's "Losing My Religion" have been stuck in my head for roughly a week. But as for special significance, my favourite song is The Beatles "Let it Be".

Top 3--
Movies: Amelie (it's beautiful and quirky and French and inspirational), Lola Rennt (it's beautiful and quirky and German and on coke), and The Breakfast Club (because it's so cheesy and yet so utterly perfect).
TV Shows [aside from Degrassi]: I almost never watch TV (I'm even a little behind on Degrassi, shame shame). I really love anything VH1 manages to crank out. Though, I have been known to watch stupid documentaries on the History Chanel from time to time.
Bands/Singers: Savage Garden is kind of my first musical love...and right now I'm really into The Postal Service and Rufus Wainwright.
Books: "Walking With the Wind" by John Lewis. It's a POWERFUL account of the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s and it blew me away. "The Little Prince" because I didn't read it until I was 16 but it made me feel like an idealistic 6 year old again. "The Diary of Anne Frank" because she was so amazing and wise.
Celebs: I have the fattest crush EVER on Anthony Rapp (most famous for originating Mark Cohen in RENT, but has had other roles as well...Open House, Dazed and Confused, A Beautiful Mind etc.). Jake Gyllenhaal is gorgeous and I want to be Alanis Morissette when I grow up.
Cities To Visit: I'm in love with San Francisco. Vancouver is my home-away-from-home. I wish I could go to New York. Basically, I like big shiny things on the coast.

Questions--
If You Could Dye Your Hair Any Color [natural or unnatural] What Would It Be? I dyed it deep red a while ago and am kind of sick of it. I'd love to put purple or pink on the ends, but my Mom would annhilate me, so that may have to wait until next autumn when I'm in college.
Would You Rather Eat Or Sleep? Sleep, definitely. It's not as dangerous or bad for you. ;)
Do You Consider Yourself Stylish? When I try. Sometimes, I'm well aware that I look awful when I leave the house...but it's 2nd semester senior year. There's nobody worth impressing, so a sweatshirt and ponytail will do just fine.
Are You Artistic? I'm a performer, definitely. A (weak) triple-threat. I love acting the most, then dancing, and finally singing. I sing with a choir for a reason. I can't draw to save my life, but I can give a monologue or do double off beat timesteps or sing something decent for you.
Are You An Indoors Or An Outdoors Person? Indoors. I do appreciate being outside, I like to bike ride and go for walks...I always eat lunch outside on the lawn with my friends. But...dance is my favourite sport. That sums it up.
What's Your Favorite Article of Clothing Or Accessory? I have a scarf fetish. I have 12. I also live in (Northern) California. My favourite is my Mark!scarf. A friend knitted it for me based on a scarf my favourite character from the musical RENT wears. Because I'm a nerd and she's wonderful.

Pick One Of The Main Characters From Each Of These Shows/Movies That You Relate To--
[it doesn't matter what gender of character you pick]
[if you've never watched the show/movie, just say so]
Saved By The Bell: Don't know it well enough
Gilmore Girls: Never watched it
Charmed: Never watched it
Smallville: Never watched it
Daria: Jane. I'm definitely the sarcastic best friend type.
Kill Bill: Never watched it.
The Lord of the Rings [any of them]: Sam. I am loyal. There's no getting rid of me. I'll follow you to Mordor and back.
Harry Potter [any of them]: Ron, for many of the same reasons. Also, I tend to feel inadequate around my friends sometimes.
X-men: Never seen it/read the comics.
Star Wars [any of them] Not familiar enough with the series to properly answer.

Anything else? Nope, I think that about covered it!
